Life in a Northern Town

Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

We decided to head to Schilthorn today, location of Blofeld’s lair in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Getting there involved two trains, a bus and four cable cars - it required commitment!

At the top we found an excellent James Bond exhibition, and a wonderful revolving restaurant - surprisingly cheap by Swiss standards so
we dined on chips for 45 minutes as we rotated around with incredible views. I have for a very long time been a little obsessed with The Eiger so it felt surreal to see it from up there, along with its fellow peaks. See extras for the view back towards Birg cable car station and also an excellent view of Mont Blanc in the distance.

Coming back down was amazing as we descended though the clouds - see extras for a shot below Birg - the elevation doesn’t bother me apart from the odd nosebleed, which I hoped would get me a seat in the next cable car but alas no.

Back in the Lauterbrunnen valley, which is famous for over 70 waterfalls, we took the bus to Trümmelbach falls, which at 90% capacity were jaw-dropping - see extras.

We were pretty tired so we headed back to the hotel for some relaxation and the England game, which is the very definition of NOT relaxing.

Tomorrow - fingers crossed - we will go up Jungfraujoch, where I may pass out with excitement. Wish me luck.

My poor old mum was discharged from hospital on Friday but is already back in again - a wonderful nurse called me this evening to say she’s being assessed - again. Everyone I speak to ( GP excepted!!) is lovely and dedicated and trying so hard to do the right thing but there is no joined up thinking going on. If she’d been kept in another few days initially all these problems would have been avoided. Let’s see where this goes.
