Pisac

We took a day trip into the Sacred Valley ahead of our Machu Picchu hike tomorrow but we probably chose it in haste as it had loads of stops and a slightly harried air of the guide trying (and failing) to keep to a somewhat difficult timetable, when all we really wanted to visit were the ruins at Ollantaytambo and Pisac. That said, the first stop, at Chinchero was impressive and the ampitheatre-like terraces at Moray are well worth the visit – apparently the experts have now decided that this site was probably some kind of pre-Incan greenhouse for testing different crop growth conditions. And, luckily, we had sufficient time at Ollantaytambo to climb the steps up to the Sun Palace even if we arrived at Pisac, technically, after closing time and had to content ourselves with this spectacular sunset view…
