There Must Be Magic

Up On the Roof

My husband typically likes to get up on the roof to clean it off sometime around late May into mid-June. We have maple trees and things drop out of them in springtime. It just never ends. It's sometimes surprising how much there is to do when you have a house. We're still waiting for that "easy living in the country" that we were promised!

Anyway, this was the day he picked to do the roof cleaning task. We had comfortable weather, the roof was dry, and he was feeling good and ready to roll. So he grabbed all of his gear and I grabbed a few things, and off we went to the back deck.

The Moose, Tiny Tiger, and the Anteater all came along. They thought it was marvelous fun, watching their pop up on the roof! I was head ladder holder and chief step-and-fetch girl. I sat and watched the hummingbirds; kept an eye on things.

His tasks involved sweeping off the tree detritus, surveying the roof itself, and removing stuff out of the gutters. He began shortly after 11 and finished up before 1.Then we got him safely down. As he worked, he sang, and I sang along.

Here is our song: the Drifters, with Up On the Roof.
