Day at a Time

Tomato

After yesterday's welcome respite the weather today has reverted to cool, wet, windy and grey. I pottered about outside for a while looking for a blip but nothing looks very appealing. Here's one of my tiny baby tomatoes doing its best. A bit like the football, growing tomatoes is the triumph of hope over experience for me but I give it a go every year.

This afternoon we're off to the nine year old's family birthday party. Yesterday she had her friends' party. She has a group of close friends - there's five of them - but she learned on Friday that her school class will be split up and mixed with the other class when she returns in August. She and two others of the group will be in one class and the remaining two in a different class. She's going to be separated from the girl she's been with since they were one and  started day care together.

I'm interested to hear her views. I imagine she's going to be upset but maybe not. I don't understand the thinking behind this but I expect there is a plan. It's happening throughout the school. It won't affect the five year old as she and all her classmates will be brand new but for all the others is going to be a shakeup.

Anyway we won't let this spoil a good party. When we come home we'll bring our grandson with us and he'll stay for a sleepover. A busy day ahead for us.
