Burnet moths
I was listening to something about moths on the radio this morning then saw a whole crowd of burnet moths (six spot I think) on thistles near the river. They're such handsome moths and it was good to see so many.
Thanks for all the congratulations on Equi-power’s 10th anniversary show yesterday. I could write volumes about EP and the positive impact it has on the lives of the children, young people and adults who participate.
In 2014 the state of the art, centre of excellence riding facility where my daughter rode, volunteered and worked was forced to close. It was an ugly time with the land being bought by a property developer with no moral conscience. It still rankles with many people. However with a huge amount of voluntary effort Equi-power was formed to try to fill the gap in equestrian opportunities. In the past four years the organisation has really flourished. There are still huge challenges – no permanent base means that services have to be limited. There’s never enough money (of course). Horses are expensive beasts. A long, and growing, waiting list shows the strong desire of many people to spend time with horses. Feedback is really positive and there is a fine organisational culture. We wish we could do more – and one day we will.
Yesterday’s event was outstanding in its planning and execution. The riders and vaulters had a grand time. The volunteers understood their roles and undertook them faultlessly. The horses behaved admirably. There was more than enough home baking and we were all exhausted at the end of the day.
I've going to set to with housework this afternoon. Very dull but needs must. Then yoga - an hour of calm at the end of the day.
