Silent Voices: the Legacy
Solamon Ibe was one of the stars of Silent Voices, a play written by Donna Hayes in 2019, produced as a video four months into the lockdown because of Covid-19. I served as the show’s director, even though I only had a single hour of rehearsal time with each performer because of the lockdown.
Since then, Donna has suffered a stroke, brain surgery, and the death of her mother, and her health is precarious. Solamon, aware that Donna and I will both be leaving the planet in the foreseeable future, arranged a meeting today for us to talk about ways the project can continue, grow, and expand without the two of us, and we each left with some assignments to complete: people to see, contacts to share, ideas to pass on.
Later today I’ll be seeing Margie, but I made this photo of Solamon and Donna this morning, and I need to post it to mark the day. There will be more to say as the project unfolds.
