Bromfield

My ageing car has developed an ominous rumbling noise so today it had to  go to the garage in Ludlow. While the mechanics were tinkering  racking up an unfeasibly large bill, the spaniel and I did our circular walk out to Bromfield via Priors Halton. At least it gave me another chance (previous blip here) to poke around in the church of St Mary the Virgin paying attention this time to the Charles Kempe stained glass windows. Rather than the main four light west window, my blip shows the smaller side chapel window, simply because I liked the way the light was falling on the surrounding stonework. And, if you look really closely, you may find a wheatsheaf with a black tower in the bottom lefthand light. Kempe's maker's mark (or rebus) was a wheatsheaf. After his death in 1907 the firm passed to his cousin Walter Tower. Hence the little tower superimposed on the wheatsheaf. The window must therefore be later than 1907 but earlier than 1934 when the company closed.

The garage had to send away for parts. Hopefully we'll get it back tomorrow, or maybe the next day....
