Eggar
This chunky beast, a caterpillar of the Oak/Northern Eggar Moth, was making its way across the path at Moorside. I made sure it reached the other side safely.
A minute earlier I’d seen my first Wall butterfly of the year, in one of their favoured spots in the old Low Eaves quarry. Then, at the edge of woods, a late season and very worn Green Hairstreak (extra) down the hill from their usual patch, but in a spot where I have seen one, once before, a couple of years ago. It has been a very poor year for Green Hairstreak, and indeed a poor spring for butterflies in general, with the wet weather playing its part.
Later, another great gig down at the Live Room in Saltaire, with Australian sisters Charm of Finches (think First Aid Kit) and Canadian singer-songwriter Mia Kelly in support. Coming your way, Sheffield, Shrewsbury, Leamington Spa, Birmingham…
