Gorse can hurt but....

Most people dislike gorse intensely. It hurts, it causes nasty scratches etc etc.

However look and listen to a bush in full sun. It gives us gorgeous yellow flowers in the coldest months with the aroma of coconut followed by the cracking of seed heads at this time of year as the sun causes them to burst open. The pods split apart with such violence they can be flung a foot or so from the bud.

It's still a nasty bit of kit if you fall into one. :-))

Old story retold. Watching a group of golfers hooking around in a huge gorse patch forlornly searching for a lost ball. My ancient companion muttered. "Ah look, they're nesting."
