Fleeting beauty of poppies

“Embrace change, for the poppy embraces transformation with every petal.” Anon

Spotted this poppy in the garden today one of the few left after our recent stormy weather.

Talking of change a group of us had a heated discussion over tea this afternoon regarding supermarket check outs.
Where do you stand on this? All except myself were against the latest trend for self-service check outs.

I tried to convince my friends this was part of the move towards a frictionless society. They were having none of it. They wanted a real person.

Now I must confess that once the novelty of self-service check-outs had worn off, I too have reverted to opting for the till with a real person.

Why? I have surprised myself though I suspect it’s something to do with human contact, however transitory, and that is becoming increasingly scarce as we live more of our lives through our screens.

This decreasing contact with real people  turns shopping into a dehumanising experience and as for the Amazon trend “ just walk out” where your shopping is automatically billed to your Amazon account that is downright creepy.
