BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS

Such a lovely day today.

First of  all however I would like to pay tribute to the very lovely William Russell.  William (usually known as Russ) played Ian Chesterton in Classic Doctor Who so he was in the very first episode.  Sadly he passed away yesterday at the amazing age of 99 years young.  I was privileged to meet him twice and he was very much a gentleman of the old school and such a kind humble lovely person.  He was also very well known for playing Lancelot in a TV series way back in the 1950s.  He has been in many films, TV series and stage productions.  RIP William, Gentle Man.  In extras is a photo of myself with William Russell alongside Garron and another Doctor Who Friend Jay.  This was taken a few years ago now.

BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS
At long last today I met up with CumbriaLass and her Dog Fletch.  We hadn't met for ages for one reason and another, so it was wonderful  to see them again.

Kath had mentioned last year about going to Broughton for a walk along the old Railway Line and fellow Blippers Trev and Ros Earthy were there just a couple of days ago which reminded me.

Broughton is a very quiet place and not much there, but it does have a cafe, a few pubs, a greengrocers, bakery, butchers, library, post office Tourist Information Centre (only Opened Thursday to Sunday) and an Antiques Centre. It usually gets overlooked for the Lake District but  has a lovely feel to it.

Broughton has a lovely walk alongside the old Railway Line.  As you walk along the pathway of the old line you come  to twin lakes with benches in various places to sit and enjoy the view.  You can do a circular walk or go further if you wish. We did the circular walk today.

Also along the walk, as you walk back into Broughton you  can see hidden amongst the trees, Broughton tower.  It was a manor house and originally a pele tower but is now private flats apparently.

After the walk we went into the Kings Head pub for a sandwich.  A very nice welcome.  Quite a basic pub but the sandwiches we had were good and generous the staff very welcoming indeed.  We weren't sure if the other pubs were open, especially The Black Cock Inn as it is under scaffolding.
.
It also has a pleasant cafe in the square.  A small but lovely selection of cakes, tea cakes or breakfast items in the morning.  It closes Mondays and Thursdays.

If you want to visit Broughton do check when the farming auctions are on because occasionally they do have one and it would be difficult to park then.

It can be difficult to park but you can usually find somewhere near the Auction Mart or a side street.  It also has public toilets (yeah!!).

I will be taking Hubby up there within the next couple of days as he would enjoy that walk too.

Sorry for the length Blip, hope you've enjoyed my day out.  Take care, stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
