Heavenly Hogh Bay, Coll

An early start meant that we packed in a lot of fun today.

We bounced out of bed just before 6:00am. Half an hour later we joined the cycle queue for the Coll/Tiree ferry. Here we chatted with a man who is resident on Coll, but works for the fire service in Oban during the week, and his son who is about to transfer from the village school on Coll to Oban High School in August.

During the crossing we played two games of Scrabble. We won one game each. The tournament score currently stands at 7:5 to me.

Once on Coll, it didn't take us long to reach our accommodation, unpack our paniers, and then repack our rucksacks for the rest of the (very sunny) day. Our main destination was Hogh Bay (blipped) for napping, sunbathing, reading, picnicking, and stream damming. We cycled back to 'town' the long way, looping past the airfield, with a stop at the RSPB information centre.

For supper this evening we ate at the island café. We were rather amused that the restaurant music was bang on our era/tastes. When I asked about it, the waiter told us that it was a Spotify playlist called something like 'Happy café music'. How bizarre that the music of The Smiths was classified under this label.

I finished reading The round house by Louise Erdich today. This is the second of her books that I have read: we discussed LaRose at my book group on June 12th 2017. Again, I have loved engaging with Erdich's writing style and skilled plot construction.

This evening Mr hazelh and I finished our mammoth Race across the world catch-up, having watched all four series back-to-back over the past few weeks. We've enjoyed these programmes very much, especially when the competitors have passed through countries that we know from our own travels.

Exercise today: small amount of cycling (~13 miles) and walking (5,178 steps).
