Little Gem

Another good night sleep and filled up on cooked breakfast and toast as a treat for our last morning, before checking out the special Dambusters bar with so many artefacts including a Victoria Cross. This was presented to Wing Commander Gibson. During the bombing of the dams he descended to within a few feet of the water and taking the full brunt of the anti-aircraft defences, he delivered his attack with great accuracy. Afterwards he circled very low for 30 minutes, drawing the enemy fire on himself in order to leave as free a run as possible to the following aircraft which were attacking the dam in turn. He did the same on the second dam. Incredible bravery.
We made our way to Metheringham which was on the way home. Small but very sweet and fabulous, informative  volunteers. We sat in a Dakota and FK took control in the cockpit...in his element, as he went through all of the controls, buttons, switches and levers. It was a very personal museum, I think, and it made me quite emotional and so proud of what FK is aiming for.
Good journey home straight into the madness of International women's Cricket in Chelmsford. England v Pakistan, under lights. Great atmosphere and even greater to be back with MrK.
