Hawthorn ( Crataegus monogyna )

Also known as "May".  In fact there is a suggestion that the saying "cast neer a clout til May is out" is referring to the flower not the month.  As today is the last day of May it seemed sensible to blip the flowers today.  Actually there aren't many Hawthorn in flower round here at the moment.

A quiet day again with a walk round the village where I spotted the single Hawthorn flower.  The flowers carry both the male and female gametes.  The stamens are noticeable due to the dark anther at the end of each stamen.
