Where is my map?

The answer - somewhere in Graythwaite Forest - between 6 and 7 on the map shown, which is Mr P's map because I lost mine on the way down the steep slope though the trees.  My first reaction was a bit of panic. I knew where I was from the last time I looked at the map,  but had no idea how to get back to the car park without a map.   
Luckily, I knew Mr P was not very far in front of me because I had caught him up a couple of time even though he set off before me. So, I called his name repeatedly. Another competitor stopped to show me his map and the route I might take. I was about to take a photo of his map and use that to get back but luckily Mr P appeared up the path. 
He let me finish the course with him, thank goodness.  And of course, I got a better time than him because I’d caught him up.  Thank you Mr P- pic of the forest in extras- it was not all as wooded as might be assumed from the photo.
