West Bay (Friday 24th May 2024)

To mark my birthday of the previous day, I met up with Mr & Mrs Spotlight Kid at their home in Dorchester. I was able to use Buzz, despite the distance, because they have a Pulse EV charger for their own Mini, which was put to use on Buzz as soon as I arrived, so I did not have to take pot luck with any public charger.

The Spotlight Kid took me to West Bay so we could have some excellent fish and chips from Rachel's near the sea front, considered the best in the area, with local fish caught by her partner and with home-made tartar sauce. It was very bright and it was difficult to see anything in the camera's EVF so some guess work was involved, but the results weren't too bad, considering. We walked around the harbour and along the pier, from where I took this and the picture in Extras, and later we had a 99 flake ice cream. It was my first view of the sea of the year.

When we got back Buzz was fully charged. In the evening on my way home I called on C. and Loki in Trowbridge. The day's mileage was the highest for Buzz of the year so far, and almost as much as my trip to Bexhill last year.

Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (recorded 27 May 1968, Hempstead NY)
R.I.P. Doug Ingle (9 September 1945, Omaha NE - 24 May 2024, San Diego CA)
Doug Ingle was the lead vocalist and Vox Continental organist for the Iron Butterfly, and wrote this song about Adam meeting Eve in the Garden of Eden (misheard by their drummer Ron Bushy as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida). He was the last surviving member of the original line-up.
The album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida sold more than eight million copies in the first year of its release, outselling every record in the history of recorded music to that time, with the title track taking up all of the second side, but a heavily edited version was a hit single. The edit of the album version linked to here was made for the film Manhunter.
