Laburnum Time

It’s laburnum arch time again, and everyone is flocking to Bodnant - though I suspect Wednesday and Thursday of this week may well have been a bit of a wash out! Today, thankfully the rain has stopped and there’s even some momentary sunshine breaking through

The arch is spectacular, but of course, photography presents a challenge. First of all, it can feel like you’re having to queue to even view the golden blossoms, and then it’s nigh on impossible to get a people-free shot - unless, that is, you visit as the gardens are opening or wait until they’re about to close. Late night openings make it easier of course, though today they close at 6.00.

And then, do you just go for the conventional head-on shot of the arch in all its glory, or do you try something a little different? I’m very tempted to go for the latter, rather liking the couple caught in the distance, underneath the golden blossom. I don’t think they’re holding hands, but the romantic in me likes to think it’s a quiet intimate moment between them. But in the end, I opt for the more conventional shot of the full arch in all its glory, snapped in a brief moment between the last of the day’s visitors, leaving the other in extras! I may well return next week and try for something else!
