First line of defence

I’ve given this a bit of a cool filter so you can see the whirly-gigs and twisting strips of silver.  All set up to keep the crows away and so far, so far we haven’t had any 5.20am window bashing. Obviously on a still day the whole thing is a bit less threatening but it does seem to keep deer away from a particular plant as well.  The climbing roses are starting to flower - they are at least out of the deer’s reach.

Lovely surprising the babies in the morning.  Ivy was delighted to see me and sat on my lap just hugging me.  Leo was more circumspect.  I took her over to nursery and then went on into the office.
Good day there and had lunch at Kettners with a writer who I’ve worked with a lot on zoom and who I’ve never met. He lives in Oregon.  It was lovely to meet him.

I left the office fairly early eager to get home after last night’s debacle.   Did a quick Vinted postal run and picked up and dropped off stuff at Waitrose for John Lewis.

Supper and watched an ep of The Gentleman - which is still a bit of a guilty pleasure.  Daft, violent but a remarkable grasp of tone.

Finally finished reading the very long Caledonian Road.  I found it really immersive and enjoyable but not a huge amount of story.  I wonder how the adaptation will work.  I want to start on the shortlist for The Women’s Prize next but I have work novels to read.
