The Bedehouses, Sleaford.........

.............this building is so typical of the Victorian love of Gothic type architecture which still looks lovely. In the information I can find it reads as follows:-
"On the south side of the Parish Church in Eastgate, Sleaford, on two sides of a well kept lawn, stand the Bedehouses founded by Sir Robert Carre, Bt., and were commonly known as Sleaford Hospital. The deed allowed the building to be used '...as an Hospital or Almhouse for the maintenance originally of twelve poor men and for a Minister to perform Divine service unto the said twelve poor men for ever. The premises later consisted, I believe, of eighteen Bedehouses. a Chapel, Board Room and Nurses quarters. From the sidewalk there are five porches, with four houses to a porch. These are two storeys high, and each flat consisted of a living room, bedroom and scullery pantry".
Quite what the set-up is now I'm not sure but until recently (and maybe now too) the applicants for a tenancy had to be male but if he was married, he could take his wife with him! I also believe that if the man died, his widow was allowed to remain in the property.
Anyway it is a very pleasing looking property and beautifully maintained.

Internal work in my dining room done - just awaiting the decorators now - hope they won't be too long in coming.

Anni is now with Debbi and by all accounts is having a simply wonderful time!

Happy Independence Day to all in the USA

Weather very mixed - lots of sun - lots of clouds too - temperature around the mid 60s F.

Lower case "L" for better detail

Enjoy your day.
