SAFE AT HOME
#2 runner (the home team) stole home base on a bad pitch from the pitcher seen here flying through the air. The runner slid in to the plate as the pitcher covered home base and muffed the throw from the catcher who was chasing the errant ball.

But it worked out for the visitors in the end. It's almost too sad to tell. High school baseball plays for 7 innings. The home team was ahead 7-4 in the top of the 7th inning. Our starting pitcher reached his pitch limit (normally about 100 pitches per game) and another pitcher took his place for the last half of the 7th inning. Young pitcher...but coach thought he had a 3 run cushion so he'd take a chance.

You've already figured it out. The youngster was pretty nervous and he surrendered 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th and the visitors win 9-7. The baptism of fire....every pitcher has to go through it at least once. Today he was baptized.
