Tom Comes Calling

They were right about the weather changing from summer to winter. Yesterday it was 80 degrees F and today it is 45 with a stiff breeze. It’s been raining off and on all day.

We had drinks and appetizers (we called them dinner) next door last night and the dogs were both happy to see us. Spike spent most of the night trying to sleep as close to me as he could get which meant that portions of me were precariously balanced on the very edge of the bed. Blake slept on the rug beside the bed, making the occasional foray into the rest of the house.

This morning Henrietta was peering into the kitchen door when Blake saw her and charged out the dog door. With a great skwak she launched herself into the air and landed on a branch of the tree. Following this, Tom made his appearance and stood fanning his tail, preening and circling , putting on quite a show for her. It must have met with her approval because she flew off her perch in his general direction and we haven’t seen either of them for the rest of the day.

The dramatic drop in temperature doesn’t seem to have phased the birds (or the squirrels) because John had to make an emergency trip to the bird store to buy more bird seed and suet.

I ride the Peloton, did some exercises and made an appetizer for our dinner with the coffee group. It wasn’t complicated but involved roasting a pork tenderloin, making crostini and layering on sliced tenderloin, Sonoma County goat cheese, red pepper jam and some baby herbs (basil and thyme) which John just planted during the week. It looks pretty, hope it tastes good.

The dogs will get extra treats as we leave them for the second evening in a row.
