Goliath
One of the main attractions in Mocuba, about which everyone is always talking, is the gargantuan Chinese supermarket in the middle of the town. It is goliath. I noted a very large selection of chicken feet in one of the freezers, but I only bought some yogurt and water.
My colleague Mbumba drove myself and Foloma around Mocuba in the evening so we could soak up the town’s vibe. We crossed the bridge over the Licungo River on the highway that leads eventually to the north of Mozambique. After the bridge the road is flanked by several large colonial-era factories, now abandoned and derelict. There is a bustling centre, alluding to the history of these old trading towns in provincial Mozambique. Mocuba is further cementing my interest in obscure towns in random places.
