Mrs Mandarin duck

Yesterday l dropped M off at his Italian  class and then went on to Boxer's lake to see what bird activity there was.  It was very cold but there was quite a lot going  on; the male birds were being quite aggressive - chasing each other, squawking and pecking. There was a sweet wee family of Egyptian geese but l was taken by the female mandarin duck.  The male is very colourful, almost like a painted bird, the female does have some colourful tail feathers and what looks like a hint of lipstick on her bill but some beautiful markings on her feathers.
