Puketawa Trail

Last day in Ohakune, did the Puketawa Track - this is a lovely trail through private forest land, built by 3 ladies and it was great. Up, up, up 200m to a spectacular viewpoint, hearing more birds than we saw! 

Heading north we drove through Tongariro National Park and had to take a look at the Grand Chateau. Built 1929, sadly now closed as it doesn’t meet seismic resilience requirements. We spent 3 nights here 20 years ago as part of our honeymoon. Hope they find a developer with vision and LOTS of money.
