Fergus and Gypsy Sitting Pretty
Everyday when I get into my dog-walking gear, pick up the leads and rattle the car-keys the dogs act up like crazy. They are hugely over-excited, racing around the garden like mad things before they do flying leaps into the back of the vehicle. Walkies time..pant pant pant. (One would think they had not been out for weeks.)
Then as we are driving to the river they bark frantically at every dog they see en route...not to mention the skate boards and scooters. Those things were invented for dogs to bark at.
Once at the river and out of the car they race around checking out the most recent delectable smells.
Then we are off...across the ford....along the tracks...in and out of the water...never mind the minus three degrees or more frost....zoom after rabbits.....tail wag at any approaching doggie friend ...sniff bottoms to say hello. Oh, it is all so terribly exhausting.
All the above behaviour is strictly confined to the dogs of course. I am more sedate.
Today was no exception. For over an hour they ran, swam, sniffed, kicked up loose earth to scatter their scent, wagged tails at distant sheep and were patted by other dog owners.
Then back to the vehicle. Phew! That was tiring!
Here they are sitting quietly in the back of the 4x4 drive looking as if butter would not melt in their mouths.
You may note that we have dog-proofed the back of the vehicle with a custom-made vinyl liner. The blue towel is to save the upholstery between the back seats. Both dogs rest their heads on that towel when we are finally heading home after a great dogs' day out!
