Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

One bug or two?

The day started with a trip to Stockbridge Parish Church where Eilidh was taking part in the Edinburgh Competition Music Festival with her violin. (Extra) I remember taking Katy to take part in these on both violin and piano. There were 14 in the class Eilidh was competing in, and she was the second to play. Her teacher was there as well, along with two of her other pupils. The three girls had a great time. One of them won the class for which she got a medal, her performance was graded outstanding and the other two were in the next band and graded excellent. It was lovely to watch them being so pleased and happy for the winner and so proud of their own performances. Yet again our family seems to have missed out on the competitive gene - for another generation. My girls were useless at competition they were both noted for going back to help a friend during junior sports days!
From there, once Eilidh had headed off back to school, I headed back through Stockbridge checking out the charity shops on the way. I visited the new St Columbas Hospice Shop, it's always been one of my favourites so I'm glad to see it open again in its new location on Hamilton Place.
The BHF shop takes the prize for the most unusual item though. They had five of these bug trays with most of the insects identified. They came from across the world, and done were beautiful colours. None of the cockroaches were as big as some of those I've seen in India though! I dunno staff said they had been attracting a lot of attention. Apologies for the glare and reflections, as they were in the window it was hard to avoid.

Once I got home I got going on this week's family dinner - a steak casserole. They're not very imaginative these food parcels but they generally taste good.
