From Punta Martiño Lighthouse

A gentler day today starting with churros and chocolate sauce for breakfast, the sweetness offset by a double espresso. We walked down to the port area and caught the water taxi out to Isla de Lobos, a former haunt of the monk seal, also know as the sea wolf hence the name lobo. It’s probably about the size of Holy Isle off Lamlash and is a protected area, car free and no permanent residents. The absence of goats makes the black lava rock much greener. We spotted several Ruddy Turnstones and an egret.

I opted for the shorter self guided beach walk and a swim in the crystal-clear water from a white sandy beach rather than climb another volcano. In retrospective there would probably have been time for both.

The blip is the view from the lighthouse, the volcano - Caldero, and just visible on the background is Lanzarote, about 30 minutes by ferry.
