Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

I do love a bargain!

It said 'mist' on the weather app this morning, but I knew they meant 'haar'. Sometimes it can look quite atmospheric, so Archie and I went down to the Meadows quite early. But it was not atmospheric. Just dreich.

In the afternoon I was dozing, as per usual (actually, slightly more than usual) and the others went out for a big walk while I readied myself for the rugby. Ireland are unstoppable, and I like to see Italy doing well, but not today.

JR came back just before the rugby started, full of excitement about a coat she'd seen at the wee local charity shop. Funnily enough, my winter coat has just become impossible, because the zip refuses to work. I'm using my Barbour, with my gilet underneath. But JR had spotted a Craghoppers coat, and insisted that I come and try it on. I did and just as well - I got the bargain of the century! It has an inside pocket, detachable hood, secret zipped pocket and two zips. And it's purple! Almost forgot to mention the price tag - £12.50! (Craghoppers coats retail about £200')

I took Archie out for an evening walk to try it out.

I'm now watching an old favourite - 'Local Hero'.
