Black And White

As the cold and ice has been replaced by wind and rain today, I thought I’d start a job I’ve been putting off for ages - the sorting of the three large boxes of photographs up in the loft.
Dating back to my infancy, and continuing up until I got my first digital camera in the early 2000s, there are literally thousands of pictures to go through. They fall into three basic categories - motorsport, holidays and home life. Of these, motorsport pictures make up the bulk of what is to be gone through and I thought I’d start with the B&W ones as I had an album they could all fit into.
I took out any that were out of focus or too similar, but that still left plenty to file away. The first dozen or so pages relate to my first visits to Le Mans in 1989, 90 & 91when I was experimenting with black and white photography. I seem to recall that I would alternate B&W and Colour films in my camera so I know there are many more photos of these events to discover in due course.
At the end of the first trawl through the boxes, I’ve not managed to reduce the overall numbers by any significant amount but everything is a lot more ordered now. I think I’m going to have to be a lot more ruthless on the next run through and discard some of the more “humdrum” photos.
There are, of course, many, many more digital photos from the last twenty odd years to go through at some point but, as they’re all stored on a hard drive they aren’t taking up any physical space in the house so it’s an “out of sight, out of mind” situation as far as they are concerned!
