Frozen
We hardly got any snow today, but it has rained pretty much all day. In the still cold air, the raindrops are turning into ice as soon as they hit the ground, a roof, a tree, or whatever is in their way. In the blip it's our wisteria and a clothesline.
I went out (with spikes under my shoes) a couple of times, scraping ice off the steps and walk in front of our house, but it didn't make a huge difference. 30 minutes later, they were covered in a new layer of ice.
Even though the main roads are being kept open with tons of salt, the world seems to have come to a standstill - buses and trains stopped running in big parts of our state of Hesse; Frankfurt Airport has cancelled about 700 flights; the schools were closed anyway (and will stay closed tomorrow); and whoever could stay at home did so.
And so do we. It's still raining freezing water, and it's getting colder now after sunset, so the layer of ice is growing and getting heavier. I am feeling very sorry for every living thing out there, whether it's animals, trees, or shrubs.
