Sands

Life can require such a large amount of hustling. I made the 7am ferry to Zanzibar with one minute to spare because the rain was heavy, motorbike taxis in short supply and I had to conduct urgent negotiations with a driver on the street.

Arriving in Zanzibar City, the place was dripping wet and incredibly humid and atmospheric. I called the driver I’d arranged to help me get to the other side of the island where I would meet Michelle, already relaxing on her leave.

It was a joy to spill onto the soft sands of Jambiani. After a mad week of driving and work, this is what birthday trips are for.
