In Wick

We had a very good and comfortable night's sleep, and once the sun had risen - at nine o'clock! - and we'd had a coffee, we decided to head into Wick for a look around.

It's very flat in these parts, with clusters of houses here and there, but unlike, say, East Anglia, which I find a bit boring, I quite enjoyed being able to look for miles in most directions.

Our first stop was at B&M to buy some bits of the cottage. We were both hungry and happily there was a food van on the retail park, where we were served breakfast rolls and hot drinks by a lady who turned out to be from Otley.

After that we drove into Wick itself, which has a stoic, stonebuilt quality to it. Before investigating further, though, we went to Tesco for some provisions.

Finally, shopping done, we drove around a bit, at one point following the Wick River out along the northern side of Wick Bay, which is where I took today's Blip.

After that, we headed back to the cottage for the rest of the day. It's quite discombobulating that the sun goes down at three-thirty; by six o'clock it feels like nine o'clock!
