Dear Green Place 18 - Bingham's Pond

Looks like we are having a milder June than expected...

This pond has changed a lot in the last 1o years. Islands have been created in the middle of the pond and the border along the edges has been planted with wildflowers, which seems to have attracted a range of water birds. The swans are now outnumbered by pairs of tufted ducks.

The pond was originally used for skating and boating, but the boathouse/tearoom was demolished in the 1960s and part of the pond filled in to create space for a new hotel and car park. Seems a shame...
