Dear Green Place 17 - Interlude

Oban (in sunshine!) from the ferry. A second day without being in a Glasgow park!

It was baking hot today, which was great as I was outdoors all day recording with primary school kids and the rangers at the Eaglewatch hide on Mull. I think I was more excited than the kids as I'd never seen a white-tailed eagle before. We saw a chick in the nest from the hide and then as we left, one of the parents flew right over our heads - quite a magnificent sight. The eagles are the UK's largest bird of prey. They were made extinct in the UK in the early 1900s through illegal killing, but chicks were flown over from Norway in the 1970s and 1980s as part of a reintroduction programme. They are causing controversy though as farmers report lambs being taken by the adult eagles.

I also saw a golden eagle for the first time today, and an otter in the harbour this morning. A good day for seeing wildlife -- although I was recording the sounds rather than the sights, so no photos...
