Tangled Up In Blue

Don’t worry, it looks worse than it actually is. It might also look vaguely familiar if you’ve been looking at my blips for a while, as it first appeared back in October 2021. At that time I’d traded in a more expensive bass to get a new amp, and I got this Squier Jaguar as part of the deal.
The plan was for it to be my next project guitar. The bridge and strings were the first things to be upgraded and I was looking at a better pickup to replace the cheap and cheerful one it came with. I fancied a Stingray style pickup but, before I could proceed, Music Man went and introduced a budget version of their short scale Stingray. Which I just had to have, so the Jaguar was traded in after only four months of ownership. And the Stingray received the pickup upgrade that should have gone to the Jaguar.
Fast forward to November this year, and I was looking to trade in my (expensive) Fender Jazz Bass because I wasn’t really playing it any more. And what should I see hanging up in R&T Music, but my old Jaguar Bass, still with my upgrades on it and still in excellent condition.
I took it as some sort of sign and - not for the first time - bought a guitar I’d previously owned. This time I’m determined to complete the project I started two years ago and, as part of the deal, had an upgraded pickup fitted. I quite liked the feel of the neck back then, but always thought it could be smoother. Having experimented on my Bronco a few weeks back, I was confident I could do it, and that is what you see here. Strings detached and neck off, ready to be sanded.
Was I successful? Did it all go back together? Does the new pickup sound as good as it looks?
