On full alert

The morning was beautiful and I snapped a few photographs in the glorious sunshine, one of which I thought would make a fine shot for my blip. But then the afternoon turned out to be far more interesting.
Bertie and I enjoyed a peaceful wander through the woods then climbed the short distance from the wee glen up onto the edge of the moorland. Suddenly, Bertie stopped and stood at full attention so I followed the direction of his gaze and spotted two red deer hinds, grazing on the rough grass just fifty yards or so away from us. There were a couple of trees between us and them and the wind was blowing our scent away from them, making them quite oblivious to our presence. Bertie thought that he would like to take a closer look and pulled on his lead, making a noise which interrupted the deers’ munching. They turned in our direction and the larger of the two “barked” at us but didn’t seem too alarmed. Slowly they moved away, giving the occasional “bark” until they were in a position where I could photograph them (extra), albeit at a distance. By this time, Bertie was making a bit of a noise as he was keen to give chase, nearly pulling me off my feet! (What, that wee bundle of fur, surely not, impossible!) So the deer calmly headed off, away from whatever had disturbed them.
