Dad and daughter moment

I decided to start a blurb book for Jenny of our Venice trip as there’s 30% off and I’d finished our Europe one. Maybe I should have had a walk as there was some brief blue sky.

I made more blinis for Luke, Ella and Nathaniel coming. Daughter has her Suffolk school friends staying which worked out badly as that was his only weekend off in 14 weeks, so he decided to come here with the children. (He sees his mum on his own now after Santagate and her being mean to Nathaniel on a few occasions).

The blinis were a surprising success - I used 3/4 rye flour and 1/4 SR, 1 egg and milk. The preserved lemons I did ages ago were still fine so I topped the blinis with some soft cheese then smoked salmon and a slice of lemon and pepper.

I made a vegan dish as Luke is on a special MS diet. I made it up - fried an onion, added cinnamon stick, cloves, cumin seeds, chilli, garlic and ginger. Then some tomato purée, celery, pre-grilled aubergine, par cooked carrots, peas, basmati rice, chick peas, cashew nuts and stock. Cooked with a lid for 15 mins then rested 10. It was good but I’d have made it spicier if the children hadn’t been having it.

I used the last of some garden apples and blackcurrants and topped with porridge oats mixed to a crumble with butter and flour.

We had a good chat with the children before they went upstairs with their chrome books.
