One Penny

A macro image, but nothing available for Halloween, the theme for today. So it’s a trick and not a treat in blip terms.

This is the new one penny coin, with an image of King Charles on the “head” side and a hazel dormouse on the “tail” side. I like the new designs, all featuring animals and plants.

As there are apparently 29 billion coins in circulation, and the existing ones featuring the late Queen will only be replaced when they are worn or damaged, it might take time for the new coins to filter through to circulation in significant numbers. I can remember when I was young that coins featuring monarchs going back to Victoria (although they were unusual) could be found in peoples pockets, but all the former monarchs were swept away by decimalisation in 1971.
