Toyah and Fripp

During lockdown, Toyah Willcox and her husband, Robert Fripp, started a YouTube channel called 'Toyah and Robert's Sunday Lunch', where each week they would cover a different song.

It was such a success that now they have taken it on tour, and last week the Minx noticed that there were cut-price available tickets for Salford residents who might want to see the show.

Well, I wasn't going to miss the chance to see Fripp playing in a small venue, even though I was kind of dubious about the nostalgia aspect, and, indeed, it was all a bit 'Butlins' at times.

But Toyah was brilliant, as were her band, and I really take my hat off to her guitarist, who had to play alongside Fripp, which must have been daunting.

And the man himself was wonderful. He played the cranky husband role well, buying into the whole shtick, but, of course, his guitar playing was the main event for me. It was a joy to hear him play 'Heroes' but best of all was to see and hear him play the guitar parts for 'Fashion', which brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes.
