Lucca

This morning, we left Bonassola by train for Lucca, where we will be staying for three nights. What an amazing city! It is full of wonderful Renaissance architecture with  narrow streets, large piazzas, towers, and churches, such as the one in my blip, the 11th century Romanesque church of San Michele in foro ( on the site of the old Roman forum) all encircled by a complete city wall. The extra shows the basilica church of San Frediano with its 13th century mosaic depicting the Ascension.  A wedding was taking place in this church as we came by.                                                    Our apartment is in an old building within the city walls and is full of character and charm.
