Monterosso and La Spezia
We had thunderstorms and heavy rain last night and in the early morning, putting paid to any hiking on the trails. Our group was offered two alternative options. Martin and I elected to take the option of going by train from Bonassola to Monterosso, to visit the last of the five Cinque Terre villages. We had a very pleasant guided walk around the village which is featured in my main blip. Then our guide suggested we took the train on to La Spezia, a bigger town, and home to an important naval base and training school. It also has some interesting 19th and 20th architecture. The first extra shows the view of La Spezia from the harbour where it was pleasing to see a fleet of operational small fishing boats. You can also see the old castle, and the hills behind which were shrouded in swirling dark clouds most of the day. Amazingly we didn't get much rain on us.
The second extra is of me on the roof terrace of our hotel this evening when the weather had improved greatly!
