Matago
A colleague Ana returned from leave, during which she’d travelled to her family’s ancestral area of Mocuba in Zambézia Province in central Mozambique, with some matago. People in the office were excited to sample this delicacy.
It’s regionally known in Mozambique and there isn’t much online about matago. From Ana’s description I learnt it is a variety of rice, pounded and roasted and then taken as a snack. It was a tasty late afternoon handful, although a bit like eating some uncooked porridge oats.
