Furtling

Today we did an outing to Msanjesi Game Reserve, which is a tract of good quality miombo woodland in a remote part of southern Tanzania. After some introduction meetings with government partners we ventured to a lake and saw lots of signs of wildlife. There were huge elephant prints dried in the mud which fire had passed over and baked. Dennis is here furtling by the waterhole.

Later back in Masasi town we had meetings with government counterparts on strategies to combat human wildlife conflict. Elephants destroying crops and threatening the safety of farmers is a continuous theme here, and some communities are understandably angry. To combat this the government is installing some strategic ranger posts where personnel can be stationed for rapid responses. Our help was sought to fund the rollout of the ranger posts so we’re now thinking how best we can support the initiative.
