The Black and White Trail

Today’s trip saw us follow the Black and White Trail, a 40 mile route through local villages famous for their black timber framed buildings- though many of these have been restored to the original plain oak now.

Most of these buildings date back to the 140ps or earlier. The one in extras, in the village of Weobley, is typical, apart from the later addition of a mullioned window, but noteworthy for the fact that Charles 1 stayed there overnight in 1645 during the English Civil War, when it was an inn.

The main blip shows ape bridge Parish Church with its unusually detached belfry, dating back to the 1200s.

The other extras show the oldest surviving AA box i in the country in Eardisland and this morning’s bird of choice on the feeders.

We did make a detour to Hay-on-Wye, which was a bit crowded and touristy.
