A View From The Balcony

After yesterday evening’s shenanigans, we have enjoyed a very lazy and stress free day, spent mostly reading in the shade of the pine trees on the small pebbly beach to the side of the taverna.

We did take a short stroll as far as we could along the bay, 400 yards at most, past the small guest house next door with its cafe, to the point where the coast path climbs precipitously up a rocky set of ledges before it proceeds towards Marmaris beach, the next one along. The area is home to the local goat herd who eyed us suspiciously from a distance.

We were reunited with our luggage around lunchtime when Pavlos, who owns the taverna, managed to get his motorboat around to Loutro to collect the daily provisions and brought our cases back with him.

There is another apartment block hidden around the corner on the left of the photo and that is it. It’s like stepping back to how you imagine Greece was before mass tourism 60 odd years ago.

The food here is wonderful. A small menu of good home cooked Greek dishes, with a choice of wine or beer to wash it down. Pure bliss.

All Tess needs is for Tom Conti to appear with a dodgy moustache and matching accent to be in full Shirley Valentine mode.

The blip is the view looking back at the headland we staggered round yesterday evening. Loutro is on the other side of it.
