Fruit (and extra Nuts)
We visited Croft Castle, a National Trust Property about 10 minutes from where we’re staying, this morning.
The house itself is really interesting and, as it’s almost Autumn and we’re in Herefordshire, is housing an exhibition of artwork and poetry linked to apples. There were some beautiful photos of orchards and wassailing, ironically mostly taken in Somerset.
The walled garden was full of apple and pear trees as well as soft fruit and flowers. The main blip is of a rather wonky door in the garden that caught my eye, with a pear in extras along with a nuthatch enjoying the feeder in the garden of our accommodation this morning. First time I’ve seen one this close.
We came back via the attractive local villages of Yarpole and Kingsland, which feature lots of timber framed houses typical of the area.
We went back to the pub in Kingsland tonight where we shared the most amazing seafood platter. There was so much of it we couldn’t manage a pudding!
