Kennet and Avon
If we had a storm ( Betty?) last night we were unaware of it. It was raining as we went to bed but bright and sunny this morning.
We decided to do a short circular walk taking in the Kennet and Avon canal, some we’ve done before and some not.
Walked down to Larkhall and then across to the R Avon crossing the Grosvenor Bridge, boats from the weir at Pulteney Bridge come up here. Under the railway bridge we then climbed up to the canal tow path. Very busy on a Saturday morning with cyclists and runners and plenty of boats on the move too.
These lovely cottages are at Bathampton just before we left the canal as it veers off right towards Bradford on Avon (8 miles).
A short walk down the Toll Bridge road before taking the footpath across Batheaston Fields (NT) which skirts the river before arriving at Batheaston. We headed for ‘Gather’ for a coffee. Plenty of room except there was a huge party just in the entrance, very noisy young women. A new one on me - a hen brunch party! We could tell as one was wearing a white hat with Bride around the brim!
We were round the corner in our favourite area so it wasn’t too bad. I was pleased to get in my visit to the second of my favourite coffee places.
Back home through Batheaston and up Bailbrook Lane from the less steep end. 4 miles, a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning.
Done a bit of weeding this afternoon, it’s still very pleasant and sunny.
The family are probably up in the air or about to land, we expect to see them at about 5.00 pm. I’m sure they will have had a great holiday, we certainly have.
