Kaffe Fassett

I was pretty sure this would be the highlight of today and therefore my blip. My only problem was which one to chose to post!

Grace left me a leaflet on the Kaffe Fassett: Timeless Themes - New Quilts exhibition taking place at the moment at the Victoria Art Gallery in the centre of Bath. For the general gallery the entry is free but there was a small charge for this special exhibition which showcased many beautiful quilts and also work by Artist Candace Bahouth: Enchanted Visions. Many items were grand rococo mirrors decorated with China and porcelain pieces. See some of them together with a glimpse of more quilts in the extra collage. My choice for the blip was purely for the colours. It’s called Tumbling Leaves using the tumbling blocks design, one of his favourites, creating this effect with dark fabrics to the right and light to the left and medium on the top. The fabrics themselves feature leaves and the quilting is hand done. The quilts we’re not for sale but the mirrors were - if you’ve got around £7,000 to spare.

Another highlight of today was unexpectedly meeting a former blipper. At Chris’ suggestion we went to Landrace on Walcot Street for a coffee. Of course I had to have Cardamon bun. Not too bad as we didn’t have lunch till late. They have extended the cafe area which is good as it’s very popular and even put in more easily accessible toilets, ( see silly toilet here) but you still have to get up and down via a metal spiral staircase from the bakery below.

We paid our bill and then stood back to allow a lady to come up the stairs before we descended. She looked straight at me and said ‘ I know who you are!’ She’s from Bradford on Avon and had been looking at local blips yesterday which included my picture of Pipett Buildings in Bradford. She’s actually thought it would be funny if she bumped into me today! She blipped until Covid and is now thinking of starting again so I will look out for her. Couldn’t believe it!

We walked across the Pulteney Bridge and down the far side of the river to go to do some shopping before heading to Castle Combe. We pass the sign to it when we arrive and leave. A lovely Cotswold village. Worth a look despite the long walk from the car park. So much of this area comes under the AONB of the Cotswolds including where Grace lives. It crosses several counties and this was in North Wiltshire as is Bradford on Avon, we are in Bath and North East Somerset but we pass the Sth Gloucestershire boundary nearby too.

We went to Gather in Batheaston for a late lunch but their website info is  incorrect and they were just closing! So we headed to the cafe in Alice Park which was nice and cheap. ((We can never normally eat here as we have Eda with us who us Ceoliac ))

The family are enjoying their last day and look great in the second extra which was taken for their 10th WA yesterday
