Matthiola incana
Today's the day ...................... to take stock
Matthiola (or 'Stocks' as we like to call them) is a genus of flowering plant in the mustard family, named after Italian naturalist Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501–1577).
There is a huge clump of them in our garden that appears without fail every year. They were here when we came - and they were probably planted many years ago. They always make quite a show at this time of the year, filling the air with their heady scent.
A very useful plant to have in the border ......................
