Coming in to New York City
Today we traveled by train from South Station in Boston to Penn Station in New York City. We had a quiet morning at home and then took off for South Station by cab. About the time we got there Arvin realized he had left his hearing aids at Helena's house. It was too late to go back so he is doing without them for the six days we are in NYC.
We had a bit of lunch and then boarded the train. By accident we happened upon the "quiet car" and settled there. It was ideal for us. No cell phones. No loud voices. Library atmosphere. It worked perfectly. I spent most of my time doing Blip commenting and catching photos out of the window, most of which were pretty boring at best. We stopped at a bunch of cities including Providence, RI, Kingston, RI (where we have family), a bunch of cities in Connecticut including New Haven where my mom was born and grew up, and several in New York. As we approached Penn Station in NYC, a storm came over and created a really atmospheric feeling as the train came from up on some kind of trestle down into Penn Station. The window had rain drops and the photos were all quite vintage in feeling. This is one of my favorites. I don't know which bridge it is. Take a look at the larger view.
We took a taxi from the station to our B&B on Park Place, just a few blocks away from my son Jason's apartment. He came to meet us and we had a yummy dinner together, bought some fruit and cereal for tomorrow's breakfast and had a great conversation at our suite. Turns out our place is bigger than Jase's apartment. :)
Now it is late and time for some sleep. We enjoyed our day on the train.
